Project Description

The Master of Arts in Education major in Science and Technology is a competency-oriented program designed for science teachers and other professionals which offers a strong foundation of theories, principles, and concepts of science. This program aims to develop creative and efficient science educators able to use competency and outcomes-based standards, innovations, and research-based practices responsive to the needs of the 21st century learners. The program is designed to ensure that empowered students develop strong capabilities to undertake research in the specific areas within the broad field of educational science.

Vision

The Master of Arts in Education major in Science and Technology envisions to produce expert, innovative, and globally- oriented science educators capable of engaging a state-of-the art science teaching.

Goals

The Master of Arts in Education major in Science and Technology endeavors to develop science teachers/educators responsive to conduct scientific studies for the fast-changing needs of science education. Likewise, it aims to apply the skills in developing, implementing, and assessing sound and meaningful science programs in their respective schools.

Program Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Master of Arts in Education major in Science and Technology, graduates are expected to demonstrate:
  • expertise in research-oriented assessment and evaluation of current educational practices and intelligently integrate the advanced knowledge in theories, policies, and principles governing science education;
  • competence in understanding the global innovations, trends, and development in using approaches and strategies in science teaching, tailored to the needs of the learners as well as the community;
  • research capabilities in replicating, verifying, validating, contextualizing, and applying theoretical and practical knowledge in dealing with science education programs;
  • expertise in generating knowledge cognizant to teaching, learning, and community service attuned to science education relative to independent research projects and activities;
  • creativity and proficiency in applying new ideas, innovative solutions pertaining to science teaching, and testing through research and advanced studies;
  • proficiency and dedication in the delivery of instruction, using a complex and coherent body of knowledge and skills in science education; and
  • competence in communicating scientific ideas and teaching a diversity of learners in the light of contextualizing scientific concepts and principles, thus bridging the gap between science theories and actual teaching practices.

Program Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Master of Arts in Education:

  • Must be a holder of bachelor’s degree in the teacher education field from any recognized institution.
  • Who do not hold a bachelor’s degree in the teacher education program, but still wish to pursue a Master of Arts in Education must earn courses (9 units) relevant to the field in his/her undergraduate program, or may take 9 units in the College of Education while taking the graduate courses.
  • Must earn the 18 units of professional courses in the discipline before admission to the graduate program.
