DLSP-RDC conducts its 11th Research Colloquium

The Center of Research and Development of Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo hosted the 11th Research Colloquium themed “Responsive Researches for Resilient Communities” on October 14, 2021 via Google Meet and Facebook Live with 80 -130 active participants.

The colloquium is held every semester in pursuit of the improvement of student and faculty research outputs. It is an opportunity for the students to learn more from the students who have succeeded in their final defense in the previous school years. Selected representatives from different colleges presented their research and allowed the audience to ask questions about their researchers via the comment section in FB live.

This semester’s hosts were Mr. John Nelson R. Ticzon, RDC Council/Statistician, and Ms. Maycel Recaña, a 4th Year BSED Filipino student and RDC Student Researcher. Prof. Kristin Anne Corcega, Research Director of RDC, warmly welcomed the participants and stressed the value of responding to the changing needs of time and being a resilient researcher.

Dr. Julieta P. Donato, Vice President for Research and External Affairs, and Prof. Arthur B. Almario, Concurrent College President/City Budget Officer gave inspirational speeches regarding the need for continuous learning despite the health crisis that we are facing nowadays.

“What do you think is the reason why we still can’t open schools? Because we lack studies and researches and we haven’t come up with the solution yet… that is why I am encouraging everyone to start assessing our environment and be a responsive researcher, remember RESPONSE COMES BEFORE RESILIENCE,Dr. Donato emphasized.

First presentation was the thesis titled “The Effectivity of Sin Tax in the Consumption of Cigarettes by Smoker in San Pablo City, Laguna,” from CTEd led by Mr. Adrian Abellano. Next presenter is from CBHM, they presented the FS titled “A Feasibility Study of Establishing a Piggery in Brgy. Alsam Ilaya, City of Tayabas, Quezon,” and last year’s champion of research congress from CCST, presented the research titled “Web-based Fire Incidents Mapping with Data Analytics system for BFP in the City of San Pablo”.

Prof. Paul Adrian Avecilla, RDC Council took over the student’s forum. The viewers asked questions regarding the presented studies. They posted their questions in comment section of the FB live streaming with the hashtags, ‘#Thesis’, ‘#Feasibility Study’ and ‘#Capstone’. The presenters gave quick responses calmly and the RDC council gave tips for effective research presentations.

After the awarding them, Prof. Corcega talked about the research manual including the new school policies in conducting research such as the Informed consent form, research clearance, research ethics and the newly formed ethics committee.

Soon after, the official research and development journal of DLSP SALIGAN and the three newly released issues of RDC newsletters were reported by Mrs. Jenifer Regoris. The program ended successfully with the  closing remarks of Mr. Apolo Joseph D. Capuno, RDC Council/Technical Editor.
